The AGM for the year 2016 / 17 took place on the 4th January 2018 in Church House. It was described in Abbtalk as a riveting evening, lightened by a fine spread of Bring and Share food provided by the Twinners themselves.

When all the mulled wine and food had been polished off, it was time to get down to the business in hand. Apologies were given by the members who could not stand the excitement of the AGM, including our Treasurer and her husband who were sunning themselves in Australia as they usually are at AGM time. Her financial figures were closely scrutinised to make sure no Quantas flights to Sydney had inadvertently been included. As usual they were 100% in order and were accepted by the meeting.

Chairman Andy Rose gave a report on his two year stint as the boss covering the five challenges that he had set himself on taking office. These were;

  • links between the schools in Abbotskerswell and in France
  • changing expectations of members
  • inclusiveness in attracting new and younger members
  • use of social media
  • recognition of the 25 years of history of the Association

Andy felt that we had met many of the challenges and looks forward to seeing them further develop in the years ahead. He thanked the supporting committee, and in particular he thanked Richard Whiffin who is standing down from the committee after more years than anyone can remember.

The Chairman and committee then stood down to allow elections to take place. Vice-chairman Julie Arrow moved up into the role of Chairman, Liz Clowes remains as Treasurer and Sandra Eales as Secretary. Linda Banks, Rosemary Whiffin and John Whitehead remain as committee members are are joined by Jane Kendall, Andy Champion and Ann-Marie Pickerill. A couple of further changes to the constitution and membership fees were discussed, decisions made and passed before a date was set for the next AGM.

As the food and drink were exhausted, it was time to pack up and go home until our next meeting in Church House on February 10th.
